Coronation of Iroijlablab Kotak Loeak

The Coronation of Iroijlablab Kotak Loeak on Thursday, February 16th 2017 is the first one in over half a century. Iroijlablab Kotak Loeak is the paramount chief of “Mojen ko an Loeak im Litokwa”, or the magistrates of Loeak and Litokwa. Iroijlablab Kotak is the younger brother of late Iroijlablab Anjua Loeak. He is also the Chairman of the House of Iroij in the National Government.
The ceremony started off with a mass welcoming of the new Iroijlablab, his wife, immediate family members, as well as delegates and dignitaries. The royal procession did a lap around Ebeye Island before heading to the Ebeye United Church of Christ.
The Coronation officially started when the the Iroij and Leiroij from the other two Mojens entered the church, followed by Iroijlablab Kotak’s alabs (landowners). The procession marched to a pleasant hymnal sung by Iroijlablab Kotak’s grandkids. Finally, Iroijlablab Kotak and his wife walked down the aisle, while the Iroijlablab continued on towards the throne.
After speeches from Manit (culture) and the government were said, it was time to crown the new Iroijlablab. Reverend Lawson Matauto
anointed the Iroij Kotak first to show that his title is bestowed upon him by the grace of the Lord. Finally, Leiroij Neimwed, Iroij Kotak’s elder sister, crowns him with a beautiful headpiece made of valuable shell ornaments, introducing him to the world as the New iroijlablab of the two mojen.
The ceremony ended with a full night of celebration and dining, and a special number from the renowned Jobwa Dancers.
