Kajur electricity on Ebeye

Electricity

The power supply for Ebeye Island and surrounding inlets consists of the generation plant containing three diesel generators and associated power distribution network. Within Ebeye Island, the distribution network includes high voltage underground power lines, power transformers, junction boxes, as well as low voltage overhead distribution lines on power poles.

Households in Ebeye purchase their electricity via the Cash Power System

Water

All the water we provide to Ebeye is reverse osmosis (RO) also known as desalination. That means that we take salt water and turn it into fresh water by removing the salt.

Our water treatment plant currently comprises of two reverse osmosis units, one 150,000 gals/day unit and one 30,000 gal/day unit. In 2005, we installed the 150,000 gals/day unit and USAID recently provided us with the 30,000 gal/day containerized unit. We have also just appointed contractors Osmoflo to build a new 430,000 gals/day unit which will be completed by early 2017.

Our water distribution system comprises of three 250,000 gallons capacity fresh water storage reservoirs with associated pumping stations and a network of piping to most households on the island

Sanitation

The sanitation services we provide involves looking after Ebeye’s sewerage system.   The system consists of four pump stations with main sewers around the perimeter of the island, and secondary sewers around bisecting the island at road lanes and an outfall pipeline. What is flushed down a toilet or washed down sink or drain is known as wastewater.
